Boswellia+ combines
two plant-based active ingredients with complementary roles. In
3 capsules, its formula provides
450 mg of Boswellia serrata extract, standardised to
10% AKBA, equivalent to 45 mg of this boswellic acid, as well as
300 mg of tabashir bamboo.
Boswellia is the central active ingredient in our formula. It acts mainly on mechanisms associated with
joint sensitivity and stiffness. Bamboo adds a more structural dimension through its
natural richness in silica.
Targeted action for joint comfort A mobile joint relies on several elements:
cartilage covers the ends of the bones,
synovial fluid helps them glide, and
ligaments stabilise the whole structure. With age, repeated exertion or sustained physical activity, the joint environment may become more sensitive. Certain biological messengers are then produced in greater quantities, which may make movement less comfortable and limit its range.
Boswellia serrata supports the balance of these messengers. It therefore helps to
keep joints relaxed,
preserve their flexibility and
maintain comfortable everyday mobility.
Boswellia serrata: a resin from the Ayurvedic tradition Boswellia serrata is a tree native to the Indian subcontinent and adapted to dry tropical regions. Its
gum resin is collected after the trunk is cut, then left to solidify before being sorted. This fragrant resin has long been used as incense and also holds an important place in the
Ayurvedic tradition.
The gum resin notably contains essential oils and a family of triterpenes called
boswellic acids. These include β-boswellic acid, acetyl-β-boswellic acid, KBA and AKBA.
AKBA: a precisely quantified active ingredient AKBA, or 3-O-acetyl-11-keto-β-boswellic acid, is one of the most studied boswellic acids. Its value notably lies in its interaction with
5-lipoxygenase, an enzyme involved in producing leukotrienes. These molecules act as messengers in the body’s defence reactions and, when produced in excess, contribute to feelings of discomfort.
AKBA binds to a specific area of 5-lipoxygenase and alters its function. Other compounds in the resin also act on pathways related to
cytokines, the NF-κB factor and certain enzymes involved in renewing the joint matrix. The action of boswellia therefore does not depend on a single molecule, even though AKBA remains a
particularly useful marker for controlling extract quality.
In Boswellia+, our extract is
standardised to 10% AKBA. The maximum daily dose therefore provides:
•
450 mg of Boswellia serrata extract;
•
45 mg of AKBA.
This standardisation guarantees a
consistent AKBA content, unlike plain resin powder, whose composition may vary according to botanical origin, harvesting or preparation method.
More flexible everyday movement By supporting the balance of mechanisms responsible for joint sensitivity, boswellia helps maintain a
comfortable range of motion. This effect may be particularly valuable when joints are under greater strain
upon waking, after a period of immobility, during sport or following repeated movements.
The aim is not to rebuild cartilage directly, but to promote a
joint environment that is more conducive to smooth, relaxed movement. Boswellia remains the ingredient primarily responsible for this
“comfort and mobility” focus.
Tabashir bamboo: a plant source of silica Tabashir, also known as “bamboo manna”, is a substance naturally formed inside certain bamboo nodes. It is not a leaf powder: it is a
dried mineral secretion composed mainly of hydrated silica. Analyses show that silicon is its main element, accompanied by smaller quantities of minerals such as calcium, magnesium and iron.
Silicon is naturally present in
connective tissues, cartilage and bone. It is associated with the formation and stabilisation of the organic matrix, notably composed of collagen and glycosaminoglycans. Collagen gives tissues their strength, while glycosaminoglycans contribute to their hydration and ability to absorb mechanical stress. Bamboo therefore complements boswellia by providing
support more specifically directed towards the tissues that structure the joint and bone framework.
Our formula provides
300 mg of tabashir bamboo per 3 capsules.
A standardised formula that is easy to incorporate The boswellic acids in our formula are
lipophilic molecules with a natural affinity for fats.
Taking them with meals therefore promotes suitable conditions for their absorption.
Our capsules are made from
pullulan and are suitable for
vegetarian and vegan diets. Magnesium salts of fatty acids are used as processing aids to facilitate powder handling and ensure consistent capsule production; they are not an active source of magnesium.
The main distinguishing features of Boswellia+ are:
•
a boswellia extract rather than plain resin powder;
•
standardisation to 10% AKBA;
• a clearly stated supply of
45 mg of AKBA per 3 capsules;
• the combination with
300 mg of tabashir bamboo;
• an
adjustable dose of 1 to 3 capsules per day;
• a
pullulan shell compatible with a vegetarian and vegan diet.
Who is this product for? Boswellia Fort may be particularly suitable for:
• people wishing to maintain their
flexibility and freedom of movement;
• those experiencing
temporary stiffness, particularly upon waking or after a period of inactivity;
• people experiencing
joint sensitivity after physical exertion;
•
athletes and people whose activities regularly place demands on their joints;
• older people wishing to
support their everyday mobility;
• people who perform
repetitive movements or remain in the same position for a long time;
• consumers looking for a
plant extract with a precisely controlled AKBA content;
•
vegetarian or vegan people.
Ingredient synergy Boswellia and bamboo act at
two different levels of joint balance.
Boswellia serrata, and more specifically its AKBA, is the main active ingredient. It supports the regulation of certain messengers involved in joint sensitivity and therefore promotes
comfort, flexibility and ease of movement.
Tabashir bamboo complements this action through its natural silica content. It provides a more structural focus, related to the
collagen and glycosaminoglycan matrix present in cartilage, connective tissues and bone.
This combination therefore represents
functional complementarity: boswellia primarily targets comfort felt during movement, while bamboo supports the tissues that sustain the joint.
What does the science say? An AKBA-enriched extract assessed over 90 days A
randomised, double-blind, placebo-controlled clinical trial was conducted from July to October 2006 at the Alluri Sitarama Raju Academy of Medical Sciences in Eluru, Andhra Pradesh, India. The results were published in 2008.
The researchers sought to assess the effect of a
patented Boswellia serrata extract called 5-Loxin® on discomfort, stiffness and physical abilities in people who had experienced mild to moderate knee osteoarthritis for more than three months.
The trial included
75 men and women aged 40 to 80, divided into three groups of 25 participants:
•
100 mg of 5-Loxin® per day, divided into two doses;
•
250 mg of 5-Loxin® per day, divided into two doses;
•
an identical-looking placebo containing rice bran.
The extract studied was
standardised to 30% AKBA. The two doses therefore corresponded to approximately
30 mg and 75 mg of AKBA per day, respectively. Follow-up lasted
90 days, and
70 participants completed it.
The researchers assessed perceived discomfort on a visual scale, as well as stiffness and physical abilities using the
WOMAC questionnaires and Lequesne index. Measurements were taken before treatment and after 7, 30, 60 and 90 days.
After 90 days, in the group receiving 250 mg:
• the visual-scale discomfort score decreased from
55.62 to 14.22, compared with 56.88 to 41.76 with placebo;
• the WOMAC discomfort score decreased from
37.17 to 15.22, compared with 38.04 to 31.74 with placebo;
• the WOMAC physical-function score decreased from
38.56 to 17.27, compared with 41.30 to 34.07 with placebo.
According to the authors’ calculations, compared with placebo, the 250 mg dose produced an improvement of
65.94% on the visual scale,
52.05% on the WOMAC discomfort score,
62.22% for stiffness and
49.34% for physical abilities. These differences were
statistically significant. Changes were already observed after
7 days in the group receiving the higher dose.
The concentration of MMP-3 in synovial fluid also
decreased by 46.4% compared with placebo with 250 mg. MMP-3 is an enzyme involved in the breakdown of certain components of the joint matrix. The biological parameters used to monitor tolerance remained broadly comparable to those in the placebo group.
These results support the value of an
AKBA-enriched boswellia extract in
supporting comfort and physical abilities in the participants studied.
