Air Immuno combines
two complementary plants in a concise, targeted formula. At the maximum daily dose of
three capsules, it provides:
•
390 mg of andrographis aerial-parts extract;
•
360 mg of elderflower powder.
The respiratory tract is lined with a
mucous membrane that forms one of the first interfaces between the body and the outside air. Its mucus traps some inhaled particles, while tiny cilia gradually move them towards the throat. The cells in this mucous membrane also act as sentinels: when they detect an unwanted element, they release messengers that coordinate the
local immune response. Intense activation of these mechanisms may nevertheless be accompanied by feelings of irritation or discomfort in the nose and throat. This organisation therefore combines a
mechanical barrier, a clearance system and local immune defences.
Andrographis, the formula’s central active ingredient Andrographis, or green chiretta, is a plant in the Acanthaceae family native to India and Sri Lanka. Its aerial parts have long been used in
Ayurvedic and Chinese traditions, particularly during periods when the respiratory tract is under particular strain.
The plant contains
diterpene lactones, among which
andrographolide is the most studied compound. These molecules act on several pathways used by cells to regulate the intensity of immune and inflammatory messages, notably the
NF-κB and MAPK pathways. In simple terms, these pathways contribute to the activation, coordination and subsequent regulation of the defence response. This action explains the central place of andrographis in a formula designed to
support natural defences and
maintain upper-respiratory-tract comfort.
Air Immuno uses an
extract obtained from the aerial parts.
Elderflower, complementary plant-based support Black elder, Sambucus nigra L., is a shrub common in Europe.
Its flowers naturally provide various
phenolic compounds, including flavonoids and hydroxycinnamic acids such as chlorogenic acid. These plant substances may contribute to the
balance between the production of oxidising molecules and the systems responsible for neutralising them. This aspect is particularly consistent when local immune activity and external stresses increase demands on tissues.
Elderflower also has a
long history of European use during winter periods. The European Medicines Agency recognises the traditional use of certain dried and fragmented flower preparations to
support the early signs of a cold. In Air Immuno, the flower is incorporated as a
powder.
The formula may therefore be relevant during
seasonal changes, in
winter or when the nose and throat are more exposed to cold, dry air and enclosed environments. It is particularly suitable for people looking for a
simple plant combination, supplied in capsules and focused on
natural defences and respiratory comfort.
Who is this product for? Air Immuno may be of particular interest to:
• adults wishing to
support their natural defences during sensitive seasonal periods;
• people whose
upper respiratory tract is occasionally under strain;
• those looking for plant-based support combining
respiratory comfort and an antioxidant component;
• people who prefer a
concise formula containing two plants and supplied in plant-based capsules;
• those wishing to follow a
30-day supplementation programme at three capsules per day.
What does the science say? A
randomised, double-blind, placebo-controlled clinical trial assessed a
standardised andrographis extract in people with recent upper-respiratory-tract discomfort.
The study was conducted at
four centres in India between May and November 2007, then published in 2010. It included
223 adults aged 18 to 60 who had experienced at least two symptoms for fewer than three days, such as cough, runny nose, throat discomfort, headaches, fatigue or sleep disturbances.
For
five days, participants received:
• either
100 mg of KalmCold andrographis leaf extract twice per day, equivalent to 200 mg per day;
• or
an identical placebo.
The extract used was
standardised to 31.30% andrographolide, corresponding to approximately
62.6 mg of andrographolide per day. Of the 223 people randomly allocated,
112 received the extract and 111 the placebo.
Participants assessed nine manifestations using a visual scale on days 1, 3 and 5. Both groups progressed similarly until day three. On day five, scores for
eight of the nine manifestations were significantly more favourable with andrographis than with placebo. The authors summarised this difference as an
overall efficacy 52.7% greater than that of placebo. Few adverse events were reported, and their frequency did not differ significantly between the groups.
This trial supports the value of a
standardised andrographis extract in
supporting upper-respiratory-tract comfort.
