Thyroïde forte is a formula intended for adults going through a period of high intellectual demand or temporary fatigue. It combines amino acids, plants, marine algae, vitamins and minerals to support several complementary functions.
L-tyrosine is an amino acid naturally present in proteins. The body uses it in particular as a precursor to synthesize dopamine, noradrenaline and adrenaline. Human research suggests that it is most relevant in occasional demanding situations, when stress, lack of sleep or a high cognitive workload challenge mental resources. A review published in 2015 concluded that the most consistent results concern contexts of acute stress or high cognitive demand.
Bacopa, also known as brahmi, complements this memory-oriented approach. A systematic review of six controlled trials reported improvement in 9 of the 17 tests devoted to free recall. However, these trials used standardized Bacopa monnieri extracts administered at 300 to 450 mg per day for 12 weeks. This formula provides 240 mg of bacopa, but the manufacturer’s information does not specify the type of preparation or its bacoside content: the trial results therefore explain the interest of the plant without guaranteeing exact equivalence.
Iodine from kelp plays a central role in the formula. At the daily dose, it provides 100% of the NRV and contributes to normal cognitive function, the normal function of the nervous system, energy metabolism and the normal production of thyroid hormones. Selenium, for its part, contributes to the normal function of the thyroid.
Vitamin B6 contributes to regulating hormonal activity, the normal function of the nervous system and the reduction of fatigue. Magnesium and vitamins B6, B9 and B12 also support normal psychological function. Zinc contributes to cognitive function, while manganese, zinc, selenium and vitamin E help protect cells against oxidative stress. These functions are recognized by European regulations on authorized health claims.
Eleuthero adds a dimension traditionally associated with periods of fatigue and weakness. This traditional use relates more specifically to root preparations listed by the European Medicines Agency. Guggul completes the Ayurvedic identity of the formula: it is traditionally an oleo-gum-resin harvested from trees of the Commiphora genus.
Kelp is a brown alga naturally concentrated in iodine. Its content can vary depending on the species, production conditions and processing method; the value of the formula is therefore that it precisely states the daily amount obtained, namely 150 µg of iodine. The manufacturing method of the L-tyrosine used here is not specified by the manufacturer. In general, this amino acid may in particular be produced by microbial bioproduction, but no specific process should be attributed to this product without further information.
Who is this product for?
• Adults going through a period of sustained intellectual work or particularly demanding days.
• Adult students, professionals or people seeking nutritional support for cognition, the nervous system and energy.
• Adults wishing to combine L-tyrosine, bacopa and micronutrients in one formula.
• People looking for a defined intake of iodine and selenium to support normal thyroid function.
• Vegetarians and vegans looking for a capsule with no active substance of animal origin, according to the characteristics stated by the manufacturer.
Ingredient synergy
The most physiologically robust combination brings together iodine, selenium and vitamin B6.
Iodine is the ingredient primarily responsible for the stated thyroid benefit: it forms part of the structure of thyroid hormones and contributes to their normal production. Selenium acts in a complementary way through selenoproteins, including deiodinases involved in thyroid hormone metabolism. Vitamin B6 completes this combination by contributing to the regulation of hormonal activity. This complementarity is explained in a scientific review published in 2023.
This is a complementarity of functions, not a demonstrated improvement in absorption. L-tyrosine and bacopa orient the formula more toward mental demands, while B vitamins, magnesium, iodine and zinc support recognized cognitive, nervous, psychological and energy-related functions.
Thyroïde forte combines L-tyrosine and bacopa with a complete complex of vitamins and minerals. L-tyrosine supports periods of intense mental demand, while iodine, zinc, magnesium and B vitamins support normal cognitive, nervous and energy-related functions. For the thyroid, iodine plays the main role, complemented by selenium and vitamin B6.
What science says
In 1999, a Dutch team sought to determine whether tyrosine intake could help preserve certain cognitive performances during particularly demanding military training involving physical stress, food restriction and lack of sleep.
Initially, 32 cadets from the Royal Netherlands Military Academy were randomly assigned to two groups. Eleven participants withdrew following injuries, so the final analysis included 21 cadets aged 18 to 27: 20 men and one woman.
For five days:
• 10 participants consumed a 500 ml protein drink providing 2 g of tyrosine each day;
• 11 participants received a carbohydrate drink of the same volume and energy value, namely 255 kcal.
Performance was measured before training and then on the sixth day. The group receiving the tyrosine-rich drink achieved:
• more correct answers in the memory comparison test: F(1,18) = 4.11; p < 0.05;
• better performance in the visuomotor tracking test: F(1,18) = 6.14; p < 0.05;
• fewer interruptions during this task, interpreted as lapses of attention: F(1,18) = 5.10; p < 0.05.
No significant difference was observed in mood, and not all cognitive tests improved.
These results suggest that a tyrosine-enriched diet may help preserve certain memory and attention performances in a context of intense physical and psychological stress.
